About the team

We're looking for someone to join our small, creative, dynamic team of communication professionals in Berlin for a fixed period of 12 months as maternity cover. You will focus mainly on communications for our climate policy outputs, including our flagship project the Climate Action Tracker (CAT), as well as collaborating with the communication leads in our global offices and content experts throughout the organisation and the CAT consortium.

We’re looking for politically savvy communications manager with a wide range of experience and expertise. Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to spot and develop a story, to deploy framings that align with our overall strategy to leverage real-world opportunities, and to use visuals to bring out the data at the heart of the story. You will understand social media and its changing landscape, be open to working with AI tools, and be able to write clearly and compellingly. Ideally, you will also have experience of working with a range of visual communications tools, such as infographics, animations and short films. With a firm grasp of decarbonisation policy and the wider political/media context, you will turn our work into convincing narratives that influence national and international policymaking.

Working hand-in-glove with our policy team and Climate Action Tracker partners, you will anticipate the political weather to conceive, craft, and execute a full suite of communications actions, from policy reports and social media campaigns to interactive digital products and high-impact events.

Your responsibilities

The Senior Communications Manager – Climate Policy is responsible for conceptualising and driving strategic communications campaigns to further the mission of Climate Analytics: supporting climate action aligned to the 1.5°C warming limit.

The main area of responsibility will be managing Climate Analytics communications activities in the climate policy space, including on the Climate Action Tracker (CAT).

Key responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute communication strategies and plans targeting key moments in the policy cycle, working closely with the rest of the Climate Analytics communications team and partners on the CAT.
  • Manage integrated communication campaigns, spanning media relations, social and digital communications, events and newsletters.
  • Monitor climate news and political developments, reacting to opportunities to maximise our media impact.
  • Build and maintain contacts and networks with journalists and other key stakeholders.
  • Plan and execute social media campaigns, drafting content, creating or
  • commissioning assets (graphics, short video, toolkits), scheduling and optimising across channels, and iterating using performance insights.
  • Maintain and continuously improve our digital presence: update website content, enhance interactive features and visual design, optimise performance and accessibility, and coordinate delivery with external providers.
  • Manage end-to-end publication of reports. Line-edit for clarity and consistency, apply templates and styles, coordinate figures/references/metadata, ensure accessibility and brand compliance, and oversee approvals and final delivery.
  • Event Management: conceptualise and deliver occasional events and webinars.
  • Develop and embed tools, templates and good communication practices through training and ongoing support to staff.
  • Support business development, inputting creative communications solutions into proposals.
  • Contribute to the continual evaluation of communication performance, interpreting and presenting evaluation metrics and making recommendations.

Your profile

Essential:
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of Climate Analytics.
  • About 5 years of relevant experience in communications within climate change or a closely related field, ideally with a focus on policy influence.
  • Ability to translate complex data analysis and methodologies into clear, compelling messages or visuals for diverse audiences.
  • Experience designing and running social media campaigns across a range of channels (X, LinkedIn, Instagram, BlueSky), with proven experience creating digital content and growing digital audiences and social engagement.
  • Established media and stakeholder contacts with a history of successfully delivering integrated communications campaigns.
  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to design communications strategies that align with organisational goals and coordinate multi-partner delivery, with examples of measurable impact.
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills: Proven ability to craft clear, concise, and compelling content for diverse audiences, with a portfolio of published materials.
  • Project experience managing large, complex projects.
  • Proven ability to build positive, effective relationships with diverse teams, including experience working in multicultural or international environments.
  • Native speaker-level English.
  • Willingness to travel.

Desirable:
  • Experience in climate policy communications, including on the energy transition, decarbonisation and mitigation policy, and the international climate process.
  • An interest in international affairs, climate politics and policy.
  • Proven ability to turn complex data into clear, compelling visual stories. Hands-on experience generating high-quality data visualisations or other visual products would be a bonus.
  • Fluency in French, Spanish or German languages is an asset.
  • Experience using software such as Canva, Adobe Pro and MailChimp.

Conditions

  • Duration: Currently we can offer a fixed term contract for 1 year to cover maternity.
  • Remuneration: Between Level 5 Step 1 on our remuneration scale (EUR 5,050 gross monthly, based on a 40-hour work week), and Level 5 Step 3 (EUR 5,573 gross monthly, based on a 40-hour work week). You will be placed on the scale according to your years of experience. Step 1 requires a graduate degree and 6 years experience, Step 2 requires 8 years, and Step 3 requires 10 years.
  • Vacation: 29 days paid annual leave for each year worked (pro rata) + one day gifted around Christmas.
